Harry Potter fans have waited a very long time for a reunion, and a first look at the HBO special shows everyone’s favourite Hogwarts trio back together.
HBO Max has released the first image of the highly-anticipated Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, showing Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint chatting away like old times.
Naturally, two decades on, the trio look much older than they did in the first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which will likely have fans wondering where their childhood has gone as they tune in – it’s already made us feel old!
Protagonist Daniel, now 32, has a beard, Emma, 31, looks sophisticated with her curls pinned in an up do, and Rupert, 33, has a more mature look and donned a polo neck for the occasion.
The three looked happier than ever to be reunited and reminiscing on old times, as the photo shows them smiling while recalling fond memories.
The reunion will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the eight-movie series that began with the first release in November 2001.
Its summary reads: ‘The retrospective special will tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time.’
The special will air on New Year’s Day with a whole host of fan favourites making an appearance.
Joining Daniel, Emma and Rupert will be Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, and Evanna Lynch, and ‘many more.’
As well as in-depth interviews, the special will also feature never-seen-before clips.
Earlier this week, HBO Max released a short trailer that teased others – like loveable Hagrid and Neville Longbottom) – receiving their invitations to attend the reunion.
J.K. Rowling, the author of the iconic book series, will not be interviewed in the special, but will be shown in archival footage about the movies.
It has not been confirmed why the writer will be absent from the special, but it comes after fans and some Harry Potter stars shared their disappointment on hercomments about transgender people.
In 2020, she commented on a story with a headline that read: ‘Opinion: Creating a more equal post-Covid-19 world for people who menstruate.’
Taking issue with the phrasing, JK wrote: ‘”People who menstruate”. I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?’
The reunion has, understandably, caused a stir on social media and given Potterheads sleepless nights with excitement.
We can’t wait to take a trip down memory lane with out favourite wizards.
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts is due to air on HBO Max and NOW on January 1.

Unsurprisingly, things became emotional between the gang, including Emma, Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe, at times, as they discussed the films that shot them to superstardom.
‘It feels like no time has passed and loads of time has passed,’ the Hermione Granger actress exclaimed.
‘The thing that scared me the most was the implication that the most meaningful thing in our life was done,’ Daniel, who played the starring role of Harry Potter, told the camera.
‘There’s something so joyous about seeing everyone, and be like, it wasn’t though…
‘I wouldn’t be the person I am without so many people here.’
‘It’s a very overwhelming thing because I’ve watched you grow up, and I’ve seen every stage of your life,’ Rupert – aka Ron Weasley – could be heard saying.
‘When things get really dark, and times are really hard, there’s something about Harry Potter that makes life richer,’ Emma continued.
As she teared up, co-star Rupert reached out to embrace her, agreeing: ‘It’s a strong bond that we’ll always have.
‘We’re family, we’ll always be part of each others life.’
Can someone accio us a tissue?
The reunion will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first of the eight-part franchise – which hit cinemas in November, 2001.
A summary of the special reads: ‘The retrospective special will tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time.’
It will air on New Year’s Day with a whole host of fan favourites said to be making an appearance.
Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs and Gary Oldman are just some of the cast getting involved, with Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright and Alfred Enoch also taking a walk down memory lane.

Emma Watson has looked back at her romantic feelings for her Harry Potter co-star Tom Felton while filming the franchise as the cast reunited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Philosopher’s Stone.
During the special on HBO Max and NOW, titled Return To Hogwarts, Emma is joined by stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint where they reflect on their time as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.
The actors grew up on the set of Harry Potter, so naturally they grew close – but Emma has revealed the extent of her crush on Draco Malfoy star Tom.
‘I walked into the room where we were having tutoring,’ recalled Emma.
‘The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought god looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard. And I just don’t how to say it – I just fell in love with him.
‘I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet, it was number seven, and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day. He was three years above me and so for him he was like, you’re like my little sister.’
Emma stressed nothing ‘ever, ever, ever, happened romantically,’ but they ‘just love each other’.
Tom was aware of his admirer though.
‘I think I was in the hair and make-up chair and someone said something along the lines of, “Yeah, she had a crush on you,”’ he said.
‘I became very protective over her. Yeah, I’ve always had a soft spot for her and that continues to the day.’
He added: ‘There’s always been something that’s like, I don’t know, a kinship.’
Emma is currently dating businessman Leo Robinton, while Tom previously dated his Harry Potter co-star Jade Olivia Gordon, who starred as Draco’s wife Astoria Greengrass in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
Also in Return to Hogwarts, Daniel remembers how Harry’s look sabotaged his dating life, while a particularly moving moment sees Rupert console a very emotional Emma.
A trailer for the Harry Potter reunion landed last month, confirming an all star line-up including Emma Thompson, Helena Bonham Carter, Gary Oldman and more all taking part.

Harry Potter fans, you’d better Accio some tissues, because the reunion special is going to have you in buckets of tears, with eye-opening revelations and a whole lot of heart.
It’s been 20 years since the groundbreaking film franchise began, spreading magic across the globe and introducing cinemagoers to the golden trio – Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley).
These young stars and the rest of the cast had an extraordinarily unique experience, growing up in front of the camera for all to see, working alongside some of the most esteemed actors in the business.
While watching the films, Potterheads might like to imagine that the actors are just as close in real life as the characters created by JK Rowling in the books.
If this special is anything to go by, that couldn’t be more true, as the reunion shows them shedding tears together, comforting each other, opening up about memories for the first time and expressing how much they care for one another, despite not seeing each other on a regular basis.
The opening of the programme is immensely magical. Having received her very own Hogwarts letter, Emma makes her way to the Hogwarts Express, boarding the train en route to the school of witchcraft and wizardry.
When she enters the Great Hall, a lavish ball is in full swing, which is where she embraces her co-stars for the first time, from Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton to Rubeus Hagrid star Robbie Coltrane.
The special starts from the very beginning, recalling the fanfare that surrounded the film series when it was first announced, particularly regarding who would be cast as The Boy Who Lived.
The minute the reunion begins, you feel the tingles that made the Harry Potter films so special, that familiar, spine-chilling feeling as you realise that you’re witnessing magic unfold before your very eyes.
Harry Potter has always been a haven for people that feel like outsiders, for daydreamers and those who love to lose themselves in fantastical worlds where anything is possible. It’s clear that these films will continue to provide that source of comfort to scores of fans for years to come.
While JK Rowling did not join the cast and crew to film the reunion, snippets of an interview she gave about the film series in 2019 have been included in the special.
Despite becoming one of the most famous actors on the planet, it’s always been apparent that Daniel’s fame has not gone to his head. His gracious, humble nature has prevailed throughout the years, with the reunion showcasing the boyish charm that made the creators realise he was the Chosen One.
Now 32 years old, you can see the 11-year-old Daniel from behind his eyes as he remembers the fun he had with the late Richard Harris, who played Albus Dumbledore in the first two films, when the actor believed that the animatronic phoenix Fawkes was a real, trained animal.
While there are some notable faces missing from the programme, it’s heartening to see many of the actors come together for what might be the first time in years. Gary Oldman and Daniel mirror Sirius Black and Harry with their heartwarming bond, while watching the Weasleys reunite in the Burrow is truly a delight.
There are plenty of laughs to be had, as the young actors remember the hijinks they got up to on set as they were allowed to simply be kids, despite the masses of media attention they were receiving.
With hormones raging during their adolescent years, fans will undoubtedly be beside themselves to learn about the romances that sprung up between the cast members, particularly Emma’s crush on Tom.
(Sorry to disappoint Dramione shippers, but Emma insists that nothing romantic ever happened between them, despite ‘falling in love’ with her co-star as a teen).
However, things weren’t always easy, with some of the actors admitting that they even considered quitting when the pressures of fame became too much.
Over the years, some of the franchise’s most cherished stars have sadly passed away, with the reunion special honouring them in a beautiful tribute.
It’s heart-wrenching to watch Tom become choked up as he opens up on the impact his on-screen mother Helen McCrory, who played Narcissa Malfoy, had on him, who died this year after being diagnosed with cancer.
From Alan Rickman to Richard Griffiths and Ian Hurt, the losses are felt sorely by the cast and crew, with Emma heartbreakingly admitting that she never expected them to no longer be around at this point in their lives.
Daniel, Emma and Rupert have an unbreakable bond – thankfully, not the life-risking, magical kind – that will clearly always remain, having been honorary siblings to one another through the ups and downs of the majority of their lives.
While the reunion may further fuel the idea of a reboot or an adaptation of the Cursed Child where they can reprise their roles, the trio are part of an everlasting legacy that very few people have experienced firsthand, one that has touched the hearts of people of all ages around the world embrace the power of magic.

Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have candidly opened up in the Harry Potter Reunion about the moments they contemplated saying goodbye to Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley prematurely when the pressure of fame took its toll.
In the reunion, the cast and creators reminisced on the most cherished memories they have from creating the films, which came to an end with Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2011.
However, despite the love they have for the movies and each other, Emma and Rupert confessed that there was a point that they considered quitting their roles.
David Yates, who directed the final four films, said on the programme that when he was first brought on board, ‘one thing that David [Heyman, producer] and the studio spoke to me about was Emma is not sure she wants to come back to do another Potter’.
Tom Felton, who played Harry’s school foe Draco Malfoy, spoke about the burden that Emma had on her shoulders, stating: ‘People definitely forget what she took on and how gracefully she did it. Dan and Rupert, they had each other. I had my cronies, whereas Emma was not only younger, she was by herself.’
Emma explained that she found an old diary entry that she made years ago, where it was clear that ‘at times, I was lonely’.
Admitting that as teens, they may not have opened up to each other about their feelings, Daniel said: ‘We never talked about it on the film, because we were all just kids. As a 14-year-old boy, I was never going to turn around to another 14-year-old and be like, “Hey, how’re you doing? Is everything ok?”’
During Emma’s one-on-one chat with Rupert, the pair related to each other on how they both felt when the global fanfare was building, with the Little Women star saying that it was around the time of Order of the Phoenix ‘when things started getting spicy for all of us’.
‘You were considering pulling out, I’ve never really spoken to you about that,’ Rupert said.
‘Yeah. I think I was scared. I don’t know if you ever felt like it got to a tipping point where you were like, this is kind of forever now,’ Emma replied, as her former co-star agreed.
Rupert shared that he ‘had moments like that kind of all the way through’, stating: ‘I also had sort of similar feelings to Emma, contemplating what life would be like if I called it a day.’
The Servant star continued: ‘We never really spoke about it. I guess we were just going through it at our own pace, we were kind of in the moment at the time. It just didn’t really occur to us that we were all probably kind of having similar feelings.’
Emma added that ‘the fame thing had finally hit home in a big way’.
However, ‘no one had to convince’ her to stay.
‘The fans genuinely wanted you to succeed, and we all genuinely have each other’s backs. How great is that?’ she said, as she looked back on her experience fondly.
While she insisted that nothing romantic ever happened between them, they both expressed how much they love one another.

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. To celebrate Harry Potter’s 20th anniversary, Daniel Radcliffe, Ruper Grint, Emma Watson, and the gang gathered to take us on a magical trip down memory lane.
The long-awaited Harry Potter reunion made its debut on New Year’s Day, a perfect watch for those nursing their hangover following last night’s festivities.
Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Robbie Coltrane, and Gary Oldman are just some of the cast getting involved, with Tom Felton, James and Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, and Alfred Enoch also taking part in the most glorious throwback ever.
So for all the Potterheads out there who want to relive the magic (again) we’ve compiled a list of memorable moments from the highly-anticipated special.
Tissues at the ready.
Daniel, Rupert, and Emma catch up in the Gryffindor common room
‘It feels like no time has passed and loads of time has passed,’ said Emma as the camera later panned a wide shot of co-stars Daniel and Rupert.
Our favourite trio sat in the centre of the Gryffindor common room and reflected on all the highs and lows that came with being a young child star in a multi-million-pound franchise.
And not that we expected anything less, their chemistry was instant and there was something so heart-warming about seeing the former besties pick reminiscing on the glory days.
The majority of us can freely admit we’ve been waiting for this moment for the longest time, Rupert however wasn’t so sure.
‘It doesn’t feel like we’ve earnt a reunion yet,’ he joked. ‘I have had kidney stones and a baby so time has obviously passed, I feel my age.’
The cast remember Alan Rickman, Helen McCory and more
One of the most touching moments during the hour and forty-five-minute special was when the cast honoured the late Alan Rickman, Helen McCory, Richard Harris, and Richard Griffiths.
Harris, who played the OG Albus Dumbledore in Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber Of Secrets, died from pneumonia in 2002.
Director Chris Columbus described the late star as a ‘devilish 11-year-old trapped in a 70 plus year-old man’s body.’
Daniel later said that Griffiths’, who played the arrogant Vernon Dursley, death ‘affected’ him the most.
Rickman, who starred as the sarcastic Severus Snape, died in London in January 2016, after a private battle with cancer, while McCory died in April 2021 following her tragic battle with breast cancer.
A choked-up Tom struggled to find the words to describe his on-screen mother Narcissa Malfoy, but revealed working with him was the biggest ‘treat.’
While Ralph (Lord Voldermort) revealed he felt intimated by Rickman’s ‘precision and expert delivery of lines.’
The tear-jerking segments concluded with the message that read: ‘In loving memory of,’ which followed the names of stars that were associated with the fantasy film.
The Weasleys return to The Burrow
James, Oliver, Bonnie joined Mark Williams in the kitchen of their captivating yet overly cluttered Burrow.
The Weasley family were a strong unit that exuded warmth and comfort among the chaos, so this moment was a delight for fans to witness.
Julie Walters, who played Molly Weasley was absent during the get-together, however, the rest of the family took turns to discuss her fiery mother-bear presence on set.
‘Being a Weasley was the best part of Harry Potter’, said Bonnie.
‘I felt so special having that extra family and all of the scenes we got on top of everything else.’
Gary Oldman and Daniel Radcliffe’s moment in the potions room
We still haven’t forgiven Bellatrix Lestrange for casting that deadly spell on Harry’s godfather, Sirius Black in Order of The Phonix, but this moment made us want to re-watch the fifth film all over again just to see Harry and Sirius’ relationship at its best.
Daniel expressed his admiration for the The Dark Knight actor since the age of 14, to which Emma recalled very well.
‘I remember you giving me the Gary chat’, she joked.
‘You were like “Emma you need to be cool, Gary Oldman is a really big deal and you need to be cool.”‘
‘I think that was projection of my own fears,’ Daniel quipped.
Goblet of Fire director’s fight with the Weasley twins left him with ‘cracked ribs
Roughly 30 minutes into the fourth installment, the troublesome twins attempt to put their names in the Goblet of Fire with the hopes of participating in the dangerous triwizard tournament, but it ultimately backfired and turned Fred and George’s facial hair grey.
This later resulted in them both fighting, but director Mike Newall wanted more from them and decided to show them how it’s done, and that didn’t go down too smoothly either.
‘Well of course I was a tubby 60-year-old gent at that stage and I really shouldn’t have done it,’ explained Mike.
‘I remember gripping him around the waist and trying to fling him about and cracked a few ribs.
‘So I was in absolute agony from then on. Of course the wonderful thing was I had made a complete twit of myself and everybody felt much better.’
Talk about throwing yourself into the work.
Hormones at Hogwarts
Back to The Goblet of Fire again, and the cast sheepishly shared what it felt like dealing with matters of the heart for the first time.
Daniel explained certain feelings crept up during filming when the Beauxbatons arrived elegantly in unison in The Great Hall.
He said: ‘You had a bunch of hormonal teenagers and they bring in two massive groups of new people, and all of them are purposefully hot for that film, so it was all kicking off.’
‘There were crushes, people went out with each other and broke up, just like you did in school,’ added Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom.)
While Emma took the moment to let everyone know that despite the ongoing rumours, nothing romantic ever happened between her and co-star Tom (Draco Malfoy) but she did brand her filming days ‘extra exciting’ when she knew he was around.
The reunion has been out for a few hours, but naturally devoted fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
One wrote: ‘Just finished watching the harry potter reunion special, my heart is full of emotions now.I think me and many others would still go to watch Harry Potter movies if they ever get released in theatres again and will be as excited as ever.
While another added: ‘After all this time? ALWAYS.
‘I needed this we needed this a good cry this emotional and lovely ride of nostalgia Our whole childhood was with #HarryPotter These actors giving each other hug in this reunion, I could feel the warmth all this was so so special.’

Despite playing nemeses on screen, the pair forged a strong bond, with Tom saying he felt ‘very protective’ over her.
While Emma stressed that nothing has ever ‘happened romantically’ between them, watching the Little Women actor recall her crush for her co-star and seeing them embrace in the Great Hall has prompted several fans to express their hope that they could still be a match.
‘Okay now I wish Emma Watson and Tom Felton would’ve been a thing! Definitely shipping Draco/Hermione,’ one person tweeted.
‘If Emma Watson and Tom Felton were to ever become a couple that would be the power couple. BUT THEIR FRIENDSHIP IS SO CUTE,’ another said.
Although it appears Emma and Tom are just friends, their on-screen reconciliation sparked some viewers to say that in their opinion, they believe they feel more strongly about one another than they’re letting on.
‘Emma Watson and Tom Felton are in love. No one can convince me otherwise,’ one person wrote.
‘I’m sorry but the way Tom Felton and Emma Watson talk about each other in #ReturnToHogwarts. THEY’RE IN LOVE. You cannot convince me differently,’ someone else remarked.
Even if their relationship is strictly platonic, one fan put forward the idea of them starring in a rom com together, which we would support wholeheartedly.
In the reunion special, Emma shared the moment her romantic feelings for Tom escalated when they were teenagers on set, recalling a tutoring session they were both a part of.
‘The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought god looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard. And I just don’t how to say it – I just fell in love with him,’ she said.
‘I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet, it was number seven, and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day. He was three years above me and so for him he was like, you’re like my little sister.’
Recollecting how he was told about Emma’s crush when he was sitting in the hair and make-up chair, Tom said: ‘I became very protective over her. Yeah, I’ve always had a soft spot for her and that continues to the day.
‘There’s always been something that’s like, I don’t know, a kinship.’

The cast of Harry Potter gathered to give fans the reunion they’ve been waiting years for, but some viewers noticed a couple of blunders which the producers of the 20th anniversary episode have now addressed.
Daniel Radcliffe, Ruper Grint, Emma Watson, and co welcomed us back to Hogwarts for the ultimate trip down memory lane for the 20th anniversary of the first film.
Landing on Sky and NOW on New Year’s Day, fans got stuck straight in after the festivities of the night before wore off, to catch-up with their favourite stars.
However, there appeared to be a couple of minor hitches after a photo of Emma Roberts was mistakenly used, and the Phelps twins were mislabelled during the reunion.
At one point, an adorable childhood photograph – supposedly of Hermione Granger star Emma – was shared with fans.
In the snap, the youngster is wearing Minnie Mouse ears – but some on social media pointed out it was actually a picture of Emma Roberts.
Fans soon took to Twitter to express their confusion over the error.
One sleuthing Potterhead even managed to find the photo on Roberts’ Instagram page from 2012.
Elsewhere, George Weasley actor Oliver Phelps couldn’t resist showing off a mistake which showed himself and his brother James wrongly labelled.
He captioned the screen grab: ‘I guess after all those pranks over the years somebody decided to get their revenge
‘It was fantastic to be part of the HP reunion. Hope you all enjoyed it #ReturnToHogwarts.’
Neville Longbottom star Matthew Lewis, who also took part in the reunion, summed up how all fans of the franchise were feeling in the comments.
He commented: ‘This is legit hilarious. Dude. Wtf? Haha.’
The producers of the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special have now responded to the confusion, reassuring fans it will soon be updated.
A statement shared with Metro.co.uk read: ‘Well spotted Harry Potter fans!
‘You brought an editing mistake of a mislabeled photograph to our attention. New version up shortly.’
Meanwhile, the reunion brought back a lot of memories for fans and the cast alike.
The actress said she ‘fell in love’ with Tom as a youngster, adding: ‘I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet, it was number seven, and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day.
‘He was three years above me and so for him he was like, you’re like my little sister.’
However, they insisted nothing ever happened romantically, but the pair are still the best of friends to this day – adorable.

HBO made Harry Potter fans very happy recently after releasing a 20th anniversary special – and now, producers have gone back to fix it after a few awkward gaffes slipped through.
Some viewers noticed a few blunders which have now been edited after it aired on New Year’s Day and informed producers on social media.
Daniel Radcliffe, Ruper Grint, Emma Watson, and co welcomed us back to Hogwarts in the special episode, telling behind-the-scenes stories and remembering stars of the franchise who we’ve lost over the years.
However, eagle-eyed fans quickly spotted some pretty huge mistakes in the HBO episode and alerted the streaming giant to the errors.
Many users on social media pointed out that a picture of actor Emma Roberts was incorrectly used during a segment about Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the franchise.
A second error was spotted by Harry Potter star Oliver Phelps, who played George, one of the Weasley twins.
The original version of the special had misidentified the actor as his identical twin brother, James Phelps – who played the other Weasley sibling, Fred – and vice versa.
‘Well spotted Harry Potter fans!’ the producers said in a statement, responding to the fans who flagged the mistakes.
‘You brought an editing mistake of a mislabeled photograph to our attention. New version is up now.’
The biggest mistake was the inclusion of a young girl wearing Minnie Mouse ears – but it was a picture of Emma Roberts, and not the Hermoine star.
The new version, now available on HBO Max and Sky Showcase, includes a different image and the correct labels for the Phelps twins.
George Weasley actor Oliver Phelps also responded in good humour after he and James were wrongly labelled.
He posted a screen grab on social media, writing: ‘I guess after all those pranks over the years somebody decided to get their revenge.
‘It was fantastic to be part of the HP reunion. Hope you all enjoyed it #ReturnToHogwarts.’
‘This is legit hilarious. Dude. Wtf? Haha,’ Neville Longbottom star Matthew Lewis replied in the comments.
Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, added a snake and lion emoji and joked: ‘It was my doing.’
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts also featured a few juicy revelations from behind the scenes.
Those watching got an insight into some behind-the-scenes romances as Emma admitted her teenage crush on co-star Tom, saying she ‘fell in love’ with Tom as a youngster.

The special, which aired on New Year’s Day, was an emotional affair for Harry Potter fans around the world, as Emma reunited with co-stars including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton and Bonnie Wright for the 20th anniversary of the first film in the franchise, The Philosopher’s Stone.
In one segment that focused on Watson’s childhood, an image was shown of a young girl sitting in front of a plate of food at a kitchen table while wearing Minnie Mouse ears.
Eagle-eyed viewers quickly realised that the photo was actually of a young Emma Roberts, best-known for starring in productions including Wild Child, We’re The Millers, Scream Queens and American Horror Story.
The Hermione Granger star has since shared the original photo in a post on Instagram, writing in the caption: ‘I was NOT this cute, @emmaroberts #emmasistersforever,’ alongside a cry-laughing emoji.
In response, Roberts re-shared Watson’s Instagram on her Story, writing: ‘Haha! I don’t believe that!’
While she may not have been in the Harry Potter films, the actor expressed her delight over the series several years ago.
In July 2011, Roberts tweeted about going to see the final film in the series, Deathly Hallows Part 2, writing: ‘Saw Harry Potter last night! Was AMAZING! Although I will never get used to 3D glasses #headache #epicmovie.’
Several fans responded to Watson’s Instagram post remarking on how funny the mix-up was.
‘My goodness this was so hilarious,’ one person said, while another commented: ‘Finally confusion cleared.’
The mistakes didn’t stop there in the Harry Potter special, as Oliver Phelps – who played George Weasley in the movies – revealed that he and his twin brother James Phelps – who portrayed Fred Weasley – had been incorrectly labelled.
Sharing a screenshot of the moment on Instagram, he wrote: ‘I guess after all those pranks over the years somebody decided to get their revenge.’
Neville Longbottom actor Matthew Lewis expressed his astonishment over the slip, commenting: ‘This is legit hilarious. Dude. Wtf? Haha.’
Meanwhile, Draco Malfoy actor Tom joked that it was ‘his doing’.

The special sent viewers into meltdown as the pair revealed they forged a strong bond over the years, with Tom saying he felt ‘very protective’ over her.
Now, Emma has spoken about the reaction to the revelations, and her relationship with Tom is clearly something she holds very dear to her.
Speaking about him during an interview with Vogue, she said: ‘We speak most weeks, and we just think it’s sweet.’
Asked how it was to be reunited with her co-star, Emma said: ‘Like heaven, honestly. I am just so happy they still exist!’
‘When Rupert [Grint] says things, he really means them. I was taken aback by how vulnerable and kind he was deciding to be so publicly,’ she went on to say. ‘Similarly for Dan [Radcliffe], it really touched me how reflective he had been over the years about how different it had been for me as a girl.’
Discussing the film’s sets she got to revisit, Emma also said: ‘Most film sets are torn down the minute a scene is finished. I am so happy they are still there for people to enjoy, me included. [Production designer] Stuart Craig is truly a genius. What he did is perfect.’
Emma previously shared the moment her romantic feelings for Tom escalated when they were teenagers on set, recalling a tutoring session they were both a part of.

Emma Watson was looking as chic as ever as she attended a star-studded pre-Bafta party in London on Saturday night.
The actress, 31, partied with the likes of Alexa Chung and Doctor Who star Jenna Coleman at the lavish party on March 12, hosted by Charles Finch x Chanel.
Worlds collided as the Harry Potter star attended the event alongside Fantastic Beasts icon Eddie Redmayne, with the hundreds-strong crowd partying until the early hours of Sunday morning.
Hosted at luxury club The LouLou in Mayfair, the famous Night Before Bafta Dinner saw the actress and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador combine smart and glamorous in a fiery affair.
Emma wore a daring lacy black cut-out top which showed off her toned body, with a high-rise black skirt reaching to her thighs.
She coupled this with unique zebra-print all-in-one stockings and high-heeled shoes, and finished the look with a gorgeous black blazer.
Finishing the look, Emma opted for silver earrings, rings and a bracelet, and tied her hair up in a playful, messy up-do.
She highlighted her natural beauty with toned-down makeup, opting for blush, pale lipstick and striking eyelashes and brows.
The former child star looked in good spirits as she headed home from the night at around 2am, smiling for the cameras as she was walked out of the building by staff.
Now a respected advocate for women’s rights as the head of UN Women’s gender equality campaign HeForShe, as well as still enjoying a successful acting career, Emma recently visited her roots as she took part in the lauded Harry Potter reunion.
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts gave fans a trip down memory lane as Emma, along with co-stars Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Felton and the huge cast of supporting actors discussed the impact of the movies and recalled their childhoods growing up on the famous set.
She later responded to the huge reaction over the sweet revelation, and told Vogue that she and Tom ‘speak most weeks, and I just think it’s sweet’.
Hopefully those present at the star-studded event didn’t party too hard, and will be ready for the main event which begins on Sunday evening.
This year’s Bafta Film Awards are set to take place on March 13, honouring the best in British and international contributions to film, and will be hosted by Rebel Wilson.

Harry Potter actress Emma Watson appeared to throw a subtle dig at JK Rowling at the Bafta Film Awards.
The 31-year-old, who is best known for playing Hermione Granger in the blockbuster franchise, attended the star-studded ceremony on Sunday to present the award for best outstanding British film.
Baftas host Rebel Wilson did the honours of introducing Watson to the stage, and said: ‘Here to present the next award is Emma Watson. She calls herself a feminist, but we all know she’s a witch.’
Watson then appeared on-stage with a cheeky smile and said: ‘I’m here for all of the witches by the way.’
Viewers took it as a jab towards Harry Potter author Rowling, who has come under fire in recent years for her controversial comments about the transgender community and the definition of a woman.
Reacting to Watson’s comment, one viewer tweeted: ‘Live for Emma Watson throwing subtle shade at JK Rowling at the #BAFTAs #LGBWithTheT #JKDoesntSpeakForMe.’
‘Was that a jibe by emma watson at jk rowling? what a QUEEEEENNN,’ another cheered.
One weighed in: ‘Emma Watson throwing some classy shade there.’
Another said: ‘Emma Watson’s “I’m here for *all* of the witches, by the way” was a giant dig at JK and I love her for it.’
‘Emma Watson opening with “I’m here for all the witches…” She’s here for #TransRights. #TransWomenAreWomen,’ one other tweeted.
Wilson also took a swipe at Rowling earlier in the awards show when a photo of her at the 2020 Baftas appeared on-screen.
She told the audience in reference to her weight loss: ‘That was me two years ago and since then I’ve done quite a transformation – I hope JK Rowling still approves.’
The controversy surrounding Rowling began in 2020, when she criticised an article that used the term ‘people who menstruate’ instead of women.
She later explained her earlier comments, saying: ‘At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.’
The author added that she respects ‘every trans person’s rights to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them’.

Emma Watson’s Baftas speech has inspired a charity T-shirt to be made to support trans children, following her apparent shade towards JK Rowling and her comments about transgender women.
Host Rebel Wilson, 42, introduced Emma to the stage, telling the crowd: ‘Here to present the next award is Emma Watson. She calls herself a feminist, but we all know she’s a witch.’
Emma then addressed the audience with a cheeky smile, adding: ‘I’m here for all of the witches by the way.’
Emma’s veiled dig at JK’s past comments was one of the biggest talking points of the night, with hundreds of fans taking to Twitter to praise her for being a vocal ally for the trans community.
Among them was the charity Mermaids, which supports transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children, young people and their families, which has released a fundraising T-shirt with her quote on it ahead of Trans Visibility Day 2022 on March 31.
Mermaids told Metro.co.uk: ‘Emma Watson has long been a supportive ally of the trans community, using her platform for good to show solidarity and love at a time when others are seeking to do the opposite.
‘Her pointed words at the Baftas recently struck a chord with many. They inspired us to create this limited line with all sales going towards supporting our work to make the lives of young trans and non-binary people and their families a little easier in an extremely hostile world.’
The merch on offer includes T-shirts available in child and adult sizes, a mug and a tote bag, and ranges from £9.50 to £17.50, with a discount of 20% when you buy two items with the code ‘witches’ and is available here.

I don’t know what’s worse: a young actress revealing the extent of sexualisation she’s become an increasingly larger victim of, or that I’m no longer surprised by such revelations.
Am I a monster, or am I exhausted?
The public, and the media – no two ways about it – has been pretty creepy towards young female stars for eons now and while I don’t have the answers as to how we make it stop (even as someone who’s a member of aforementioned media), I can at least use this platform to try to call out how insidious this kind of attitude towards young women is and how it threatens all of us – not just the famous.
And yes, before you ‘what about’ me on the subject, people are also dodgy towards young men in the public eye. We only need to see previous treatment of Millie Bobby Brown’s Stranger Things co-star Finn Woldhard to know that is definitely a thing.
But there is a systemic issue in the treatment of young women – with women in minority communities, as well as those in the LGBT community subjected to this on top of bigoted discrimination and prejudice – and that is why I’ve gathered you here today.
After being sexualised as a young teen rising to fame in the evidently seedy world of showbusiness, and previously opening up about it when she turned 16, Millie this week spoke about how much worse the interest got when she recently turned 18.
‘[It’s] really overwhelming. I have definitely been dealing with that more in the last couple weeks of turning 18,’ she said on the Guilty Feminist podcast.
‘[I’m] definitely seeing a difference between the way people act and the way the press and social media react to me coming of age. It’s gross.’
Long before she turned 18, the star – who was cast as Eleven in Stranger Things in 2016 at the age of 12 – was being sexualised online, with comments lobbed her way, such as those from armchair critics who suggested she was dressing ‘too grown up’.
Then, the forums began to pop up.
One such included an 18+ Reddit chat that counted down to the star’s birthday, was teased as ‘NSFW’ and was to ‘unlock’ only when she reached the milestone age. I s**t you not.
Disgustingly, a description of the page, shared in another forum, read: ‘[It’s] to post sexual pictures of her the day she turns 18. It’s a sub solely dedicated to sexual pictures of Millie, who is currently a minor, until next week but they have a sub prepared already with thousands of subscribers.’
Yes, there were people actually waiting until it was ‘legal’ for them to post sexual pictures of her. This is apparently a thing that happens to female stars when they turn 18, with similar websites popping up ahead of the Olsen twins’ birthday back in the day.
Millie’s not the first to speak about this level of crude sexualisation, with former child star Mara Wilson revealing before she was out of middle school, she was ‘featured on foot fetish websites, photoshopped into child porn, and received all kinds of letters and messages online from grown men’.
Emma Watson was also a victim of this, after upskirting shots of her were published in mainstream media the day she turned 18, which would have been illegal only 24 hours prior.
It’s a sad reflection on society when these sorts of revelations, which *should* raise all sorts of alarm bells that lead to meaningful change, just don’t shock me anymore.
Is it because, as a young female myself, I’ve been exposed to this sort of thing, be it directly to me, or in my general sphere, for nearly two decades now? As a woman, am I both horrified but also, wildly desensitised? Has society got me so down I’ve simply given up?
God, I hope not.
We’ve probably all subconsciously shared sentiments about stars like Millie such as ‘wow, she’s so grown up now’, which, at the time, might not intend to come from a predatory place, but when you think about the fact we’re still commenting on a teenage girl’s body, or what she’s wearing, it’s pretty bloody creepy, isn’t it? So while you may think I’m bleating on about something that you don’t see as a problem, it really is.
Even under a story of the star’s remarks about being sexualised, I saw a comment remarking how Millie’s ‘kid-teen’ looks were ‘long gone’. We just can’t help ourselves, can we?
Again for the cheap seats at the back, whether it’s positive, or from a place of support, just because these women are famous does not make their bodies public domain. If they’re not yet 18, it *really* bloody doesn’t make their bodies public domain. Keep comments to self, people.
Heard of the Lolita Effect? It’s a term coined in a 2008 book by Meenakshi Gigi Durham, derived from Vladimir Nabokov’s novel Lolita, which is all about a middle-aged professor becoming obsessed with a 12-year-old girl, and refers to the media sexualisation of girls, as well as the blame that can be put on them for their part in abuse or harassment that girls face.
Lolita was published in 1955, remember. So we’ve clearly not learned any lessons here, and the internet, a haven of gross, is just giving this Lolita energy a place to expand.
Plus, to rub salt into the wounds, even when their bodies are not treated as theirs – when they’re objectified, when older men in boardrooms make decisions about the ‘image’ they’re going to publicly portray, when they’re hacked and nude photos of them are leaked online, it’s still seen as their fault. How many female stars have been forced to apologise for the sexualisation of their own bodies that they did not consent to. Isn’t that wild?
Perhaps it’s because we’ve seen what happens when these young stars don’t bend to the whim of the powers that be – they’re cast aside. The ol’ adage of sex sells has never rung more true, it matters not to the executives whether the starlet is of age, and that mentality is clearly passed own to the consumers and baying fans.
But if we continue to allow this sort of behaviour and conversation fester in the comments of Instagram posts and remain unchecked in Reddit forums, we’re only allowing that weed to grow when discussing non-famous women.
By shrugging off Millie’s comments as ‘what you get for being famous’ it’s merely justifying that rhetoric to be weaponised against ourselves. And huns, we’re not about that life.
Well look at that, I’m not feeling so exhausted any more: let’s rage.
Tom Felton has admitted he had no idea what Harry Potter was when he auditioned for the part of Draco Malfoy – and it might have been exactly that ‘nonchalant’ attitude that ended up securing him the part.
The 34-year-old actor recalled the experience of auditioning aged 12 alongside lots of other children who were in love with the JK Rowling novels.
‘I was also one of the only ones who had no idea what Harry Potter was at the time,’ he told The Guardian. ‘Anyone could try out for it, so many excited kids went along who loved the books deeply.’
He first tried out for the title role of Harry Potter and his best friend Ron Weasley, dying his hair black and then ginger in the process. He said his ‘nonchalant’ and cavalier attitude towards the part of Draco, who could be described as arrogant at best, is what probably secured him the part.
‘I reckon I got the part because I was nonchalant,’ he continued, ‘and had no idea what anyone was on about. Wizards in cupboards under the stairs? And with three older brothers, you learn to be confident quickly.
‘I think Chris Columbus, the director, recognised this slight disinterest and arrogance in me, which he thought could work for Malfoy.’
Tom said he was able to resume life as normal and go to school on and off while making the films, unlike Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry, Emma Watson, who played Hermione, and Rupert Grint, who starred as Ron, who Tom says were on set ‘non-stop for 10 years’.
‘My schedules were fixed in a way I could stay at school with weeks on and weeks off,’ he added. ‘Rupert [Grint], Emma [Watson] and Daniel [Radcliffe], meanwhile, were there non-stop for 10 years. I carried on as normal.
‘I’d get the occasional gag or comment from my mates, but honestly nobody was bothered. Some people really struggle with the idea that I wasn’t this special, popular kid, but I was walking around with dyed hair and played an evil wizard. It wasn’t cool. It did me no favours with the girls.’
Recalling a tutoring session session they both were part of, she said: ‘The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought god looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard. And I just don’t how to say it – I just fell in love with him.
‘I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet, it was number seven, and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day. He was three years above me and so for him he was like, you’re like my little sister.’
Tom has just finished filming thriller Burial with Harriet Walker and Charlotte Vega, and will make his West End debut in 2:22: A Ghost Story.

Emma Watson’s famous pixie cut has returned, as she made her directorial debut with a short film for the launch of Prada’s new women’s fragrance.
The actress, 32, is also the face of the campaign and chopped off her signature shoulder-length brunette tresses for the striking hair transformation.
The Harry Potter star is seen in the somewhat edgy image, captured for the campaign by photographer Harley Weir and posted on the Prada site and on social media, posing with the chopped do from a side profile.
Emma, who is in a sleeveless, silk, burnt orange top, paired the look with dangly Prada earrings and dramatic retro eyeliner.
Last year the star revealed she’d spent lockdown ‘getting behind the camera’, describing the experience as ‘the most empowering thing’.
She shared a frame from the film on Instagram and wrote: ‘When Prada asked me to be the face of their new fragrance campaign, I asked if I could direct it.
‘Months later, and I’m able to share the results of the faith they shared in me, with all of you.
‘I can’t wait to share this piece of my art, and hope that you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.
‘I could never have done this without my unbelievable team of collaborators. Thank you for your time, commitment, talent and passion. My directorial debut and Prada’s newest refillable fragrance, coming soon.’
In a statement from the Italian fashion house, she added: ‘Prada has always gone beyond traditional models and archetypes of conceived beauty and is famous for a femininity that challenges conventions.
‘It’s a pleasure to create a campaign and represent a fragrance with such a profound philosophical concept and sustainability initiatives in a way that feels genuinely real and relevant.’
The actresses’ collaboration with Prada also involves a focus on improving the brand’s sustainability and disclosure practices, which will be charted on their Good On You ethical fashion app.
She starred as Belle in the 2017 adaptation of Beauty And The Beast and appeared as Meg March in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women.
Emma is also an activist for women’s rights and was appointed a UN Women goodwill ambassador in 2014.
She has since helped launch the UN Women campaign HeForShe, which promotes gender equality.
The Prada fragrance will launch worldwide on August 22.

Emma Watson was recently revealed as the face of Prada Paradoxe, a brand new fragrance from the renowned fashion house.
As well as starring in the campaign, the Harry Potter actress also made her directorial debut with an accompanying short film described as a ‘celebration of what it means to be a living paradox.’
Among the ’60s-themed fashion and barely-there makeup in the shots, Emma’s cropped hair is proving to be a talking point among trendsetters – and not for the first time either.
The 32-year-old has revived her iconic pixie cut, with face framing strands and a gamine micro-fringe in a deep, brown shade.
It’s been over a decade since Emma Watson first got the chop, telling Wonderland: ‘I felt bold, and it felt empowering because it was my choice. It felt sexy too.’
There’s no doubt it compliments her look, emphasising her bone structure and petite features. But is it a look that everyone can pull off?
According to Laura Elliot, head of education at Neal & Wolf, not exactly.
She tells Metro.co.uk: ‘Sadly, everyone can’t suit everything! It will all depend on your face shape; I tend to find that more oval face shapes are ideal for this type of cut.’
However, all is not lost, as even those who might not naturally suit this short style can tweak it to make it their own.
‘You can opt for more “un-done” look by softening areas such as the fringe, if your face is slightly rounder,’ says Laura.
‘Or if you prefer more of an alternative style, you can have bulk taken out of your cut to add texture and “wispiness”, this will give your style a sharper, more defined look.’
Emma has gone for a more grown-up version of her previous pixie ‘do, featuring a blunt fringe, tendrils around the ears, and texture up top to add a little edge.
If you want to give it a go, it’s worth first considering whether you can handle a drastic change to your look – particularly if you have long hair.
Try using a photo app to get an idea of how a cropped cut will look on you, and consider how you’ll trim and style it as it grows out; hair grows at an average of half an inch per month, so planning ahead helps avoid that awkward in-between stage.
Laura adds: ‘To style a pixie cut, I would recommend choosing products that aid in adding texture and hold to ensure it keeps its shape.
‘For short styles I like to use Neal & Wolf’s Shape Pliable Paste, Dry Texture & Finishing Spray, and Flexible Styling Hairspray – these products will add that much needed grip and texture to hold your style in place.’
A delicate pixie cut also looks great with accessories like clips and bands, particularly if they add a pop of colour or sparkle.
Always take some inspiration pictures into the salon to help your hairdresser see your vision, and don’t be afraid to ask for their input on what would look best for you.
We can’t promise you’ll leave looking like Emma Watson, but hopefully you’ll feel as bold, empowered, and sexy as she did rocking the style.
You’ll never guess what – the cast of Harry Potter only have a WhatsApp group chat.
And it’s not just any chat as, according to Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton, they use it to share ‘geeky’ wizard jokes. Honestly, we’d expect nothing less.
The 35-year-old actor delighted Potterheads by confirming that he is still ‘very close friends’ with the other stars of the films, despite it being over 10 years since the last movie in the franchise was released.
And although they don’t get to see one another very often, the stars like to stay in contact via messages.
He told Capital Breakfast: ‘We’re obviously very close friends, all of us. It sounds sort of like a cheesy line to say that we’re all family. We don’t often see each other, all of us together in the same room as much as we’d like to.
‘But yeah, there is a cheeky WhatsApp group going, and we still make lots of really geeky Potter jokes. Like I will only refer to them as the Gryffindorks.’
Tom assured that ‘the banter is still there’ and while the cast – including the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint – shall remain ‘linked forever’ by the Harry Potter phenomenon, they are genuinely good mates.
The actor also admitted he that he ‘blagged’ his audition for the movies because, unlike most of the children trying out, he’d never read any of JK Rowling’s books.
But, he ultimately thinks that worked in his favour, although he reckons it ‘probably would’ve been a good idea’ to do his homework beforehand.
‘Quite ironically, I blagged it. I think because in the original audition stages, basically they invited everyone in the UK who was a fan of the book,’ he explained.
‘So there were thousands of children lining up who knew all about Hogwarts and Gringotts and I had no idea about any of it.’
Tom confessed that he ‘definitely lied’ in his audition by telling casting directors that he thought the best-selling novels were ‘brilliant.’
‘And I’m pretty sure Chris Columbus, the director, saw that as probably a perfect Malfoy candidate so in a way not reading the books helped get me the part,’ he laughed.
Following numerous allegations of transphobia against Rowling over recent years, Tom insisted he ‘doesn’t like to pick sides.’
He said he feels ‘no-one has single-handedly done more for bringing joy to so many different generations’ than the writer.
Speaking to The Times’ T2 magazine, the child star said: ‘I couldn’t speak for what others have said or what she said, to be completely honest, but I’m often reminded, attending Comic Cons in particular, that no-one has single-handedly done more for bringing joy to so many different generations and walks of life.
‘I’m constantly reminded of her positive work in that field and as a person. I’ve only had a handful of meetings with her but she has always been lovely. So I’m very grateful for that.’
Tune into Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, weekdays from 6am-10am
