The Harry Potter Reunion had fans all up in their feelings as they watched the stars of the movies reunite for the 20th anniversary of the Philosopher’s Stone.
The special included several revelations that will surely have excited Potterheads across the globe, including Hermione Granger actor Emma Watson revealing the moment she ‘fell in love’ with Draco Malfoy star Tom Felton.
Despite playing nemeses on screen, the pair forged a strong bond, with Tom saying he felt ‘very protective’ over her.
While Emma stressed that nothing has ever ‘happened romantically’ between them, watching the Little Women actor recall her crush for her co-star and seeing them embrace in the Great Hall has prompted several fans to express their hope that they could still be a match.
‘Okay now I wish Emma Watson and Tom Felton would’ve been a thing! Definitely shipping Draco/Hermione,’ one person tweeted.
‘If Emma Watson and Tom Felton were to ever become a couple that would be the power couple. BUT THEIR FRIENDSHIP IS SO CUTE,’ another said.
Although it appears Emma and Tom are just friends, their on-screen reconciliation sparked some viewers to say that in their opinion, they believe they feel more strongly about one another than they’re letting on.
‘Emma Watson and Tom Felton are in love. No one can convince me otherwise,’ one person wrote.
‘I’m sorry but the way Tom Felton and Emma Watson talk about each other in #ReturnToHogwarts. THEY’RE IN LOVE. You cannot convince me differently,’ someone else remarked.
Even if their relationship is strictly platonic, one fan put forward the idea of them starring in a rom com together, which we would support wholeheartedly.
In the reunion special, Emma shared the moment her romantic feelings for Tom escalated when they were teenagers on set, recalling a tutoring session they were both a part of.
‘The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought god looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard. And I just don’t how to say it – I just fell in love with him,’ she said.
‘I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet, it was number seven, and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day. He was three years above me and so for him he was like, you’re like my little sister.’
Recollecting how he was told about Emma’s crush when he was sitting in the hair and make-up chair, Tom said: ‘I became very protective over her. Yeah, I’ve always had a soft spot for her and that continues to the day.
‘There’s always been something that’s like, I don’t know, a kinship.’
